History
The ARD digital broadcaster started on 30 August 1997 under the name EinsExtra. EinsExtra was positioned as information programme. Till 2006 the broadcaster consisted largely of replays of magazines, talk shows and documentaries from the first (Das Erste) and third (Drittes Fernsehprogramm) channels. From 2006 to 2009 the sender was successively converted to a news network, to which a new live news programme with the name EinsExtra Aktuell was launched. At first the 30min-programme was broadcast from Mondays to Fridays at 14:00, 15:00, 16:00, 17:00 and 18:00. Since the beginning of 2008 non-stop from 09:00 to 19:00 and from June 2009 on till 20:00. Besides, since August 2010 the program is also broadcast at weekends and on holidays from 12:00 to 18:00. From 1 May 2012 on EinsExtra Aktuell was renamed to tagesschau24.
